Peter Bobby is a Bristol based artist and senior lecturer in Photography at the University of Wales, Newport. Born in Oxford in 1975, he studied Fine Art at the University of Wales, Cardiff at both BA and MA levels. Having subsequently spent a number of years living and working in London, he relocated to Bristol in January 2006. He is an active member of the ECPR (European Centre for Photographic Research) based at the University of Wales, Newport. He is also the co-founder of ‘Format’, the Bristol based video and photography network, which met for the first time in January 2007. He currently has a studio at Spike Island, Bristol, and is a member of the studio selection panel.

Bobby has worked on a number of bodies of photographic images that centre around specific interiors that allude to architectural and stylistic perfection and raise a number of questions about the way we live and the spaces we choose to inhabit or encounter as we move through the city, from corporate reception areas to show-homes, commercial gallery interiors to rooms strategically sited within high-rise developments. Often referring to Augé’s writings on non-place amongst others, Bobby presents us with carefully constructed large-scale luminous images that intentionally tread a fine line between, art, architecture and corporate image making.

He has exhibited at a number of galleries both in the UK and Europe, including Ffotogallery in Cardiff who published his first monograph, 'Reception' in 2003. The accompanying exhibition was first shown at Mission Gallery, Swansea, and then toured to Cardiff and Bath. More recently he has exhibited with Focal Point Gallery, Southend, Unit 2 Gallery, London, and Cube Gallery, Manchester. In recent years he has also exhibited in Milan, Bologna and Grenoble as well as being featured in a number of major photography publications including Portfolio and Source. He has recently undertaken two residencies in Rotterdam and Manchester as well as travelled extensively to both research and produce his photographic work.
